Often times is difficult to know all the rules and what is the responsibility of the city to enforce and what falls within us as neighbors to enforce under the HOA rules we agreed to follow when purchasing our property.
Step 1 If you recognize a problem, talk to your neighbor about it. If they are unwilling to resolve the issue or don't follow through on taking corrective action then you will need to report them.
Step 2 Common issues that are the responsibility of the city to enforce under city ordinance include: Tall grass, improper trash receptacle storage, parking immobile vehicles, parking of commercial vehicles over night, noise violations, outdoor storage of equipment, or insufficient property maintenance. These items are all subject to city code and should be reported to Overland Park either by phone at 913-895-6270 or via their website https://www.opkansas.org/OPCares/.
Common issues the HOA must address that are allowable under city code but unacceptable per our by-laws and restrictions are trailers parked in the streets/driveways over night or neighbors making home updates using materials or colors that are not consistent with our neighborhood's look and following the by-laws. These types of concerns should be addressed to the board using the form below.
